What is Equine Iridology?

Equine Iridology is the study of constitution of the horse via the analysis of the iris. It is neither a treatment technique or a diagnostic tool but rather an assessment modality that looks at tissue and organ make-up of your animal.

By analyzing the iris of the horse we can classify its constitutional make up, help in the identification of predisposition towards health and disease and detect possible nutritional deficiencies. Being able to look at the constitution of your horse gives us the ability to detect if the weaknesses or “nurture points” were passed on from the Dam or Sire. This offers valuable insights to those involved in breeding.

Nutritional status is analysed via pH studies as well through pollutants analysis. With the latter, we take into consideration the area where the horse was conceived, foaled, broken in and trained. Practice in the field of Complementary Medicine over the last years has opened our eyes to the exposure of farming contaminants and the role they play in blocking nutrients from entering the cells of your animal thus inhibiting full health. Analysis of heavy metals is performed alongside every Iridology Analysis Consultation.

Constitutional stressors can be identified years before it develops and becomes clinically apparent to conventional x-rays and blood markers. Iridology is also very useful where progression of disease has already manifested as clinical issues as it aids in finding the true cause.

The horse’s gastrointestinal tract (GIT) is an intricate and complex one; due to the twists and turns known as flexures. Equine Iridology is able to identify a constitutional predisposition of your horse’s GIT towards colic, parasites and other general pathogens despite conventional drenching techniques. Absorption and distribution of nutrients can also be assessed via the study of the mesenteric artery reflex area.

Overall, Equine Iridology performed by Animal Services Through The Eye is able to see inherited predispositions as well as acquired and developed conditions in the horse ensuring long term results and decreased re-ocurrence of symptoms.
